Allstate Sugar Bowl
Jeff Hundley, CEO

Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the The Basin St. Station!

Jeff Hundley officially assumed the role of chief executive officer of the Allstate Sugar Bowl on July 1, 2019. He has been with the Sugar Bowl for over 30 years, an era largely marked by unprecedented growth in programs and revenue generation resulting in the Bowl’s consistent status as one of the nation’s premier bowl games. Hundley also served as the executive director of the New Orleans College Football Championship Host Committee for the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. In addition to coordinating the successful bid by the city of New Orleans to host the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship, Hundley served as co-executive director of the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four.

Jeff reported that this is the 90th anniversary for the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The Organization generates revenue primarily from ticket sales to its events, sponsor payments and licensing fees. The primary expenses of the Organization are the costs incurred to conduct the annual Sugar Bowl® Classic, as well as payments to the participating schools routed through their respective conferences via the College Football Playoff. In addition to these expenses, the Organization sponsors more than 50 amateur sporting events around the Greater New Orleans area and the State of Louisiana. These include events in baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, powerlifting, regatta/sailing, road racing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, volleyball and wrestling. The Sugar Bowl also sponsors the Manning Award, the New Orleans Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame and a free annual youth clinic for over 400 children.

Jeff stated that in 10 years, the economic impact to Louisiana has been 2.4 billion and half a million in scholarships over 5 years. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Sugar Bowl Committee, along with the College Football Playoff Foundation and additional local partners, funded wifi hotspots for New Orleans Public School students in need of internet access, ensuring that every student was able to attend school, virtually.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has been a strong supporter of education since its inception in 1934. Throughout its existence, the Bowl has contributed millions of dollars to the participating schools, and/or the conferences of the schools. The Bowl also makes a direct impact on young local students through a variety of scholarship opportunities while also providing significant funding to support New Orleans Public Schools and their efforts around teacher retention and recruitment as well as principal professional development.
