LED Update
Anna deTiege, Director of Innovation Capital, Louisiana Economic Development

Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the The Basin St. Station!

Anna deTiege is the Director of Innovation Capital for Louisiana Economic Development. She leads the strategic vision and execution of initiatives to spur venture capital investment and entrepreneurial activities throughout Louisiana. Over the last decade, Anna has focused on technology commercialization, small business, and startup operations, having held roles at the New Orleans Startup Fund, Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University, the Angel Capital Association, and the NO/LA Angel Network (now Gulf South Angels). She is passionate about helping entrepreneurs realize their visions and does so by ensuring strong investor and government relations, providing technical assistance, and matching entrepreneurs with a host of resources.

Anna informed the GNOEA members that LED created an office of innovation to design and lead a state wide strategy focused on supporting start up businesses through four components, access to capital, start up services, marketing and promotion, and commercialization and corporate innovation.  The state’s support strategy includes grants, loans, tax incentives and specialized programming for small business owners that gives them a competitive edge. Technical and business assistance supports entrepreneurs and startups through programs or services that improve proposal development and team creation; provide assistance that leads to the commercialization of technology developed through SBIR/STTR program funding; and form or encourage relevant mentoring networks to provide business advice and counseling. The Louisiana Innovation Retention Grant program (IRG) provides supplementary state support for research-focused Louisiana small businesses that have previously received a federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant. The office can provide developmental assistance, including entrepreneurial training, marketing, computer skills, accounting, legal and industry-specific assistance.
