Todd Murphy, Commissioner, Port

Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the The Runway Café!

Todd P. Murphy, native of Metairie, La., is the Chief Operating Officer of M Wealth Advisors – Raymond James. He spent nearly a decade as President of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and Ex-Officio Administrator of the organization’s Charitable Foundation and Political Action Committee. As the chamber’s primary spokesperson, he drove advocacy, membership development, and marketing. Under Murphy’s leadership, the chamber was awarded a Five-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and was honored three times in the past decade as the most outstanding Chamber in the State of Louisiana by the Louisiana Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. Murphy was recognized twice as an Economic Development Champion by Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) and was previously named a role model by the Young Leadership Council. He is a former president of the Louisiana State Chamber Association and served on the Board of Directors of the regional economic development organization, GNO Inc, as well as the board of LABI. He has also served on numerous charitable, civic and business organizations.

Todd Murphy reported that the Port of New Orleans has approximately 300 employees. The Port handles cargo, rail, and industrial real estate. The Port of New Orleans is a diverse general cargo port, handling containerized cargo such as coffee, plastics, apparel, food products and consumer merchandise; and breakbulk cargo such as steel, non-ferrous metals, rubber, wood and paper.

Todd also reported on t he Louisiana International Terminal. Louisiana’s economy relies heavily on maritime trade. A new terminal will enable Port NOLA to serve the larger ships that are coming into service and stay competitive. The number of shipping containers moving in and out of the U.S. has increased significantly over the last ten years. To meet the industry’s growing needs, the Port of New Orleans is investing in a new $1.8 billion container terminal project—The Louisiana International Terminal. The proposed terminal will serve vessels of all sizes, providing goods to support Louisiana’s homes and businesses.
