Insurance Update
Harry Kelleher, President, Harry Kelleher & Co.
Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the Rooftop on Basin St!
Harry Kelleher, is president of Harry Kelleher & Co., Inc, an independent insurance agency, protecting business and families in Greater New Orleans area.
Harry shared that workers compensation policies in Louisiana are experiencing a premium war. Harry recommended all business owners to evaluate their workers compensation policy and get other quotes. He suggested Louisiana Workers Compensation Corporation. LWCC will provide a dividend that after a few years will kick in and meaningful after a few years. In his opinion, LWCC is the best at rooting out fraudulent claims.
Harry informed GNOEA that the commercial property insurance is less regulated than personal insurance. The commercial property insurance is starting to see some decreases. Harry recommends for any business that has commercial vehicles to install cameras inside the vehicle and outside if possible. The cameras will help decrease the policy rate as well as help if there is ever an accident. In the case of an accident, cameras will help tremendously in the litigation process. Everyone should be engaging with their insurance agent to make sure the agent is filling out the quote sheet in full. Harry also stated they are starting to see relief on the property polies as well.
Harry Kelleher advised there are some things homeowners can do to help with their premiums. A homeowner can ask their agent if there are credits available that they can get. Some companies have carbon monoxide, fire, water shut off, camera monitoring, generator, and gas leak protection credits. The number one item for obtaining a credit is the water shut off a homeowner can install.
