Erroll Williams, New Orleans Parish Tax Assessor

Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the Rooftop on Basin St!

Erroll Williams has served as an Orleans Parish Assessor since 1985. His previous district, the Third Municipal District, was the largest within the City of New Orleans. In addition to his years of experience as a parish Assessor, Williams held various executive offices within the City of New Orleans, including Chief Administrative Officer (1984-85) and Director of Finance (1978-84). His esteemed career also includes time with Alexander Grant & Co. Certified Public Accountants (1975-78) and as an Internal Auditor with Goldman, Sachs, & Co., Investment Bankers (1971-73). As Orleans Parish Assessor, Williams oversees one of the state’s largest assessment rolls, comprised of more than 176,000 residential and commercial parcels valued at over $7.1 billion. Erroll Williams understands the need to ensure a citywide assessment process that is both fair and equitable. He will continue to work toward the consistent valuation of properties by re-evaluating current assessment practices to leverage modern data-collection efforts.

The Assessor’s primary goal is to establish values for every parcel of property in Orleans Parish, whether residental or commercial. The office strives for fairness and transparency so the values established are equitable, accurate, and current. Mr. Williams stated they utilize a computer-assisted appraisal system for maintaining property data and values to achieve a greater tax equity through atransparent system. The public can view this data here. The Assessor’s office does not set the tax rate, mail out tax bills, seize or sell property, or collect payments for taxes. The Assessor’s office will review the calue of all properties at least once every four years.
