Avondale Global Gateway
Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the Rooftop on Basin St!
Matthew Mancheski joined HOST in 2020 as Chief Financial Officer.
Prior to HOST, Matthew spent over a decade in healthcare finance before joining Tidewater Marine, where he served as Vice President for almost 12 years. In this role, he was responsible for FP&A, strategic planning, information technology, corporate development and investor relations. Additionally, he was responsible for overall leadership of the Americas and Africa & Europe business units, for which he spent time living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Matthew holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of New Orleans and an MBA from Tulane University.
Matt Mancheski reported that in 2018, HOST acquired the former Avondale Shipyard located at mile 108 of the Mississippi River. The shipyard, which closed in 2014, was once a center of economic activity and the largest employer in Louisiana with a workforce of 26,000. It has an enduring legacy, and the vision is to reestablish its prominence as a model of redevelopment and ingenuity. The plan includes the overhaul of existing infrastructure, upgrades to buildings and equipment, expansion of the port facilities, and direct connections to six Class I railroads.
Avondale Global Gateway combines multimodal connections and ample storage and laydown space with a strategic location. Accommodating ships, barges, rail and trucks, the site offers immediate access to the regional and interstate highway system and is positioned at the interchange of six Class I railroads, creating capability to distribute cargo in all directions.
Avondale Global Gateway has a direct rail connection to Union Pacific and additional track has been laid to support unit and block trains. We have a cooperative endeavor agreement with Port NOLA, Jefferson Parish and New Orleans Public Belt (NOPB) to connect to five other Class I railroads.
Space is plentiful at Avondale, with 254 acres of distribution and manufacturing facilities directly ashore and 1.5 million square feet of convertible warehouse or manufacturing space, including indoor and outdoor Foreign Trade Zone storage.
