World Trade Center of New Orleans

GNOEA met via Zoom on Tuesday September 22 for organization updates and to learn more about the role of the World Trade Center with Ed Webb, CEO of the World Trade Center New Orleans.  http://www.wtcno.org

With an extensive background in business and international trade, Mr. Webb was the President and CEO of the WTC in his home state of Kentucky. His international experience includes his work in the UK, France, Argentina, Dubai, India and Cuba. The World Trade Center’s focus is on international trade and partners with organizations like the Louisiana Economic Development, GNO, Inc., New Orleans Business Alliance and others to educate and assist Louisiana and Gulf Coast businesses who are interested in expanding into the international trade market.

Webb referred to us as a worldwide economy with international trade impacting five out of five jobs and that five thousand Louisiana businesses export product around the world. Webb added that the WTC more recently started an advocacy team with partners such as Adams and Reese and the NOLA City Council to address local issues which ultimately impact the cost of goods passed on to consumers. He further explained the importance of dredging the river to fifty feet to accommodate larger vessels into the Port of New Orleans.  Webb spoke patiently about the importance of the Mississippi River and Louisiana ports to the Louisiana economy noting that the Port of South Louisiana, located in Reserve, Louisiana, is the largest tonnage port.

Ed encouraged all to attend the WTC virtual International Trade Day on November 4th to learn more about international trade and the its role for the city, state and gulf coast area. Event details will be emailed to the membership.

Recording and presentation will be in meeting archives
