Dr. James Gray, Superintendent of Jefferson Parish Public Schools

GNOEA met via Zoom on Tuesday September 29 for organization updates and to learn more from Dr. James Gray, Superintendent of Jefferson Parish Schools, on his new role and how schools have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and reopening schools.  Dr. Gray’s Bio

Dr. Gray has served in public education for 25 plus years as a teacher, assistant principal and principal. He served as Chief of Schools for Jefferson Parish Schools following his time as Director of School Leadership for the Vermillion Parish School District. Dr. Gray earned his bachelor’s degree from Grambling State University, master’s from Nicholls State University and an education doctorate from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Gray’s short term of two and half months as Superintendent of Jefferson Parish Public Schools, faced him with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple weather events forcing the school system to pivot to a virtual learning environment. Gray quickly realized the critical role schools play within the community noting that there was “no script for COVID-19”. He commended the board and staff for their efforts in creating avenues for change versus road blocks. He shared a slide presentation “Start Strong Jefferson Plan” which provides a snapshot of their overall plan.  He addressed the phases of returning back to the classroom, virtual options for families, safety protocols, and testing.

Recording and presentation will be in meeting archives
