Employee Embezzlement and Fraud Prevention

FBI Special Agent Jordan Jernigan

This week’s breakfast meeting, was held at the Rooftop on Basin and catered by Messina’s (George Messina, member) with guest speaker Jordan Jernigan, FBI Special Agent.

Jernigan leads the white collar crime squad in New Orleans that operates the financial crime unit. This unit investigates fraud by employees, healthcare industry, to the elderly, transitional fraud, bankruptcy fraud, bank and mortgage fraud, ID theft and money laundering with wire fraud being the most common. He provided tips on how to prevent fraud in the workplace such as: segregation of employees duties, avoid giving access to employees to write checks, provide unique logins to track who is doing what for a transaction, and give employees specific outlines for credit card expenses in writing with the employees signature. A follow up presentation with additional information on fraud prevention will be scheduled at a later date.
