New Orleans River District

Tara Hernandez, President of JCH Properties

Thanks to GNOEA member George Messing, Owner Messina’s Catering, for hosting this week’s networking event for GNOEA members at the The Basin St. Station!

Ms. Hernandez, is president of JCH Properties, a real estate investment, consulting and development company that specializes in delivering urban lifestyle experiences through the conversion of underutilized real estate into “cool”, creative spaces. The firm is part of a team developing a new neighborhood on the New Orleans riverfront known as the River District.

Tara shared the master plan and vision of the River District concept. This new “neighborhood” will incorporate an area for sports and entertainment, retail with food and beverage, office space, a boutique hotel, a park, multi family housing (condos/rentals) appropriately priced for hospitality industry workers. The idea is to create a multifunctional space to attract tourists, conventioneers, and locals to that area of the city. With an increase in river and ocean cruise line traffic, it will increase visitors to the area. Part of the plan is to have a bike path and bus service to the area.

Next steps: The infrastructure phase is underway, ground work is being done to tap into utilities on Henderson and Tchoupitoulas streets, and the award for the 200 multi family units is pending.
