Blitch/Knevel Architects announced the completed renovation of the existing cafeteria building on the Nicholls State University campus in Thibodaux, Louisiana.  This was the first renovation of the structure, built in 1964.

The new cafeteria includes a kitchen and catering area, private dining and meeting rooms, as well as a comtemporary servery.  The servery area accommodates specialty exhibition cooking areas including a pizzeria and deli, and other internationally themed areas.  Dramatic colors and lighting enliven the dining experience for students, with increased usage of the facility since its opening.

A mixture of fixed banquettes and flexible table arrangements provide seating for 500 students, faculty and stafff.  Tables and chairs can be moved to use the cafeteria space for large scale functions, including the University’s annual Mardi Gras ball.

The project was honored with a 2009 Outstanding Design Award from American School & University Portfolio.
