Update on All Things Louisiana

Louisiana State Representative Aimee Freeman

This week’s breakfast meeting, was held at the Rooftop on Basin and catered by Messina’s (George Messina, member) with guest speaker Louisiana State Representative Aimee Freeman, District 98. District 98 boundaries include, from the Parish line down Claiborne to the River and Napoleon. Freeman announced that a new District 23 is being formed in Mid-City based on population growth and will reduce District 98 by three precincts.

Freeman uses her background in strategic planning to help with legislation. She provided a recap on funding received:  $71 million for a separate SWB power plant that is expected to go through next month. Another $18.5 million was received for Orleans Parish Communications District (911 & 311) call center. This call center takes more calls than any other in the state. Capital outlay money was received to continue projects at Children’s Hospital. Federal funds were received with $40 million received for early childhood education, ensuring kids get an early start. Business owners can earn a tax credit if contributions are made to the early childhood education fund. $50 million received for parks, playgrounds and recreation.

Freeman encouraged all to educate your legislators with issues that they may not be aware of.
