Corporate Internship Leadership Institute
Perry Sholes, Founder and Executive DirectorÂ
This week’s breakfast meeting, was held at the Rooftop on Basin and catered by Messina’s (George Messina, member) with guest speaker Perry Sholes, Founder and Executive Director for the Corporate Internship Leadership Institute, a 501 (c) 3 organization.
In an effort to keep college graduates in New Orleans and to remain in the city, the Institute was created to connect businesses with interns with a focus on finding diverse talent and was selected for the 2022 Corporation of the Year Award by the Morial Convention Center.
Sholes shared testimonials from successful student interns who experienced on the job training to help develop their skill set. Sholes, who founded the Institute, has a background in human resource management and operations, and created the organization to be part of the solution by coaching and mentoring college students. Students are coached to be global minded not only with education but also being mindful of their community. The program requires students be enrolled in a four year college, be a Louisiana resident and want to remain in New Orleans. The institute ensures that the student’s relevant experience matches with the partner company and their credentials develop a pipeline of diverse employees.
Partner companies may contact Sholes as a consultant to create an internship program. Sholes reiterated that the Institute is a fellowship program, not an employment agency. Partner companies pay interns a living wage of $15/hr. Donations are accepted to help fund the staff. Contact Perry Sholes for additional information at perry@internshiptalent.org.
