Downtown Development District

Davon Barbour, President & CEO of the Downtown Development District

Thanks to member George Messina for catering this week’s networking event at the Rooftop on Basin.

Barbour, new to the City of New Orleans, shared his excitement about building a world class area in downtown New Orleans. Tourism has recovered from the pandemic at roughly 85 percent of the 2019 numbers with the majority of tourists coming from the eastern half of the country. Attention to the visitors who are within ten miles away is also being reviewed.  Barbour touched on the Bio Innovation District saying that key areas of concern are public safety, affordable housing, parking, infrastructure, and taxes. His vision is to make the City of New Orleans a premier destination in time for the 2025 Super Bowl and to create an “Instagram able” moment.
