Update from New Orleans City Council

Joe Giarusso, New Orleans City Council District A

New Orleans City Council Representative, Joe Giarusso, addressed GNOEA members with the latest on the City of New Orleans. Giarusso, a former chairman of the Public Works Commission was instrumental in the transparency for the Sewage and Water Board.

Giarusso, touched on crime and the ongoing efforts to recruit and retain the police force.  Other issues that the city faces is illegal rental properties, street light and traffic light outages that in some cases have been out for more than three years. He explained the challenges to repairing damaged sidewalks and troubled road projects.

When referring to zoning issues, Giarusso recommended an app that is a “one stop shop”, and a helpful tool for residence and businesses. The app lists the owner and zoning information on a property. Notice Me is another tool that notifies a person of changes or activities in a particular district or area.
