The Talent Pool, Hiring Trends, & Candidate Preferences

Presented by Lola Lass, Adeeta Staffing

Thanks to member George Messina for catering this week’s networking event at Rooftop on Basin.

Lola Lass shared that the current talent pool is an employees market. Unemployment is low right now which lowers the talent pool for employers. Indeed, LinkedIn, Zip Recruiter, word of mouth, and staffing companies are all popular ways to find employees. Employee referral programs have really taken off recently as well. Job candidates are considering competitive salary, good benefits, growth opportunities, work/life balance, company cultures, workplace flexibility, meaningful work, supportive leaders, job security, and the company brand/reputation. Lola added some reasons people leave their job are that they aren’t happy with the company/boss, don’t have a friend at work, not feeling heard or seen, disagree with the treatment of others, and the grass is always greener mentality.

She covered a few tips for employers on hiring new employees: be ready for them, check on them often, ask if they have questions, give feedback early and often, recognize them for accomplishments, develop a growth plan early on, and conduct stay interviews.
