Bulletin–2012-37

IMPORTANT NOTICE
NO CHANGE OF VENUE

There has been another change in our breakfast meeting location.  Joey DiMaggio with the Rose Garden of Jefferson has informed us that he is resigning from GNOEA and will not be able to hold our breakfast meetings at his location.

Joey has been a loyal and generous member of GNOEA since 2006 and will be greatly missed.  We will therefore be holding our meetings in January, February and March at Ralph’s on the Park.

I visited with Joey at St. Tammany Hospital on Wednesday, he looked well and his spirits were high.  He did inform me that there was a great probability that he will be in the hospital for Christmas.  I am sure he would welcome your visits or phone calls and you can reach him in Room 220A by calling (985) 898-4000.

PROGRAM

Our speaker for today was Representative Nicholas Lorusso, 45, is a life-long resident of District 94.  He graduated magna cum laude from Jesuit High School in 1985, where he played football and wrestled.  He graduated from the University of New Orleans and in 1992, graduated from LSU law school in Baton Rouge.

In October 2011, Nick was re-elected for a second four-year term and was appointed by the Speaker of the House as the Chairman of the Special Committee on Military & Veterans Affairs and Vice-Chairman of the Retirement committee.  Nick currently serves on the Appropriations, Insurance and Retirement committees.  He has also served on the Civil Law & Procedure, Criminal Justice, Judiciary, House & Governmental Affairs and Ways & Means Affairs committees.  He was also appointed as a member of the Governor’s Military Advisory Committee and the Battle of New Orleans Bicentennial Commission.    In 2012, he received the Legislator of the Year award from the Louisiana Fraternal Order of Police.

Representative Lorusso gave us an update on the recent ruling by a Baton Rouge judge on the private tuition voucher program being unconstitutional and also on the upcoming Fiscal Cliff.

He mostly wanted everyone to know that getting involved by attending sessions on Capitol Hill is one of the strongest ways to help change legislators positions.  You can go to www.legis.louisiana.gov/main to view a calendar of upcoming legislator sessions.
HOLIDAY

GNOEA will not have a breakfast meeting on December 25th due to the Christmas Holiday and January 1st due to New Year’s Day.  We will meet back at Ralph’s on the Park on January 8, 2013.

I hope everyone has a great Holiday!
